Hi all! My name's Seth. I'm an amateur writer, both fiction and poetry. I enjoy writing life stories- stories that revolve around a climactic event in a character's life.

I like to leave the reader with the ability to finish the story as they wish, or provide their own backstory.

I encourage feedback!

If my stories inspire you, horrify you, or anything in between, do tell me about it. I write for my audience- you included.

On dogma

Journal Entry: Mon Nov 9, 2009, 10:36 AM

Spoiler Warning: This has nothing to do with art.

This was a Facebook response to someone asking me what I believe and why.

I try to stay out of politics, but I'm definitely liberal. I can't ever adopt the position that I'm 100% right because history has been a litany of people getting things dead wrong. Slavery was bad. Roman gods don't create hurricanes. Because I won't ever be 100% right, I'm open to the opinions of others who might be right. Their point of view might be closer to reality than mine. However, I require proof. I won't believe someone's opinion just because the majority of people believe it, or because some authority says it's true. If someone has an opinion, political, religious, or anything like that, they have to have proof to back it up or I don't take them seriously. For example, I support homosexuality, but that decision has nothing to do with religion. If homosexuals were the majority and wanted to outlaw heterosexual marriages, I wouldn't want them imposing their will on me. Also, I'm an atheist. I decided about a year ago that it's more likely that a desert-dwelling, nomadic civilization (the jews) heard about gods and souls and afterlifes from the egyptians, sumerians and others who were religious, combined that with their customs, wrote it down, and spread it as Judaism, (of which Christianity is an offshoot) than for an all-powerful being who refuses to be seen, heard, tasted, touched, smelled or otherwise communicated with outside of a 2,000 year old book to have created the universe in six days, especially when observation of nature contradicts that. Basically, I'm against dogma. Politics, religion, and any other dogma functions by rejecting new ideas that might be better. Dogma chains the mind to a rigid set of beliefs that might not be right and I won't be enslaved.

By the way, check out these artists. They're the best!

I remembered my old account name and password. I had more people watching, and a list of people I was watching here, so I decided to move all of my work here rather than build everything from scratch.
